Special Workshop & Certificate Awarding
BMICH, Colombo
The Special Workshop on Crime Prevention and Rehabilitation, along with the Certificate Awarding Ceremony, was held on March 16, 2026, at the Bandaranaike International Memorial Hall. The event was graced by the Chief Guest, Professor of Law J. P. Peries.
On this occasion, distinguished individuals who have made notable contributions to the fields of criminology, legal studies, and rehabilitation were recognized and honored.
Among those who received special recognition were:
Professor J. L. Peries – a distinguished scholar in the field of law
Professor Praneeth Abeysundara – an expert in sociology and anthropology, and former President of the Sri Lanka Buddhist Congress
Venerable Kuppiyawatte Bodhananda Thero – who has contributed over three decades to the field of rehabilitation in Sri Lanka
Professor Daya Amarasekara – Senior Professor in Sociology at the University of Peradeniya and founder of the Ariya Amarasekara Foundation
Senior Lecturer Udayakumara Amarasinha – Head of the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura
Professor Neranjani Wijewardhana – the first Lady Professor in Criminology in Sri Lanka
Professor Anusha Edirisinghe – former Dean of the Faculty of Criminology at the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University
Certificates were also awarded to participants who successfully completed the Crime Prevention and Rehabilitation program.
A key highlight of the event was the official launch of the website of the International Organization for Crime Prevention and Rehabilitation, along with the initiation of its social development and awareness activities.
